An opportunity to own a business in their home town, which also aligned with their skill set, was too good to pass up for Michael and Kelly Orr.
So in April this year - and at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic - they bought Go Vita Springwood. And they haven't looked back.
"It was the perfect storm for us," Michael explains. "We had wanted to purchase a business where we could work together.
"Kelly had completed her Bachelor Degree in Nutritional Medicine and Dietetics and we had bought our home in Springwood two years prior.
"The previous owner, John Baker, was ready to retire so we saw the opportunity to work together in our local community and a health food store with clinic space was the perfect business for us."
Known mainly for its nutritional and herbal supplements and health foods, the store also stocks a wide range of specialty breads, fresh bulk raw honey and peanuts, as well as ceramic water filters, natural beauty products, environmentally-sustainable household products and much more.
The in-store experience is complemented by the website, Facebook and Instagram and they offer local home delivery as well as call and collect.
The clinic offers nutrition and naturopathy consultations, both in person or via Zoom and phone. "We are family run and owned and we live just around the corner from the shop," Michael said.
"Even though we are new owners, the team - Bec, Cath and Peta - have been at the store for many years.
"Many of our customers have been shopping at the store for decades and we look forward to catching up with them every week.
"And because our staff are qualified naturopaths and nutritionists the advice you receive when you shop with us is personalised and backed by expertise, experience and genuine care."
Michael said customers could sometimes be confused by the sheer volume of information that's around these days on health and wellness.
"When you shop at Go Vita Springwood you can be confident that you're getting quality advice and a personalised experience," he said.
"We go above and beyond in little ways such as taking special orders, researching new products, or checking that products are suitable with your health history and we aim to provide great value to our customers.
"When we moved to the Blue Mountains everyone told us it was not like the rest of Sydney.
"The people we smile to on our morning walks are the same people that come in asking for advice. We love the community spirit and supporting other local businesses like ours."
