A new intercity fleet train made its first test journey to Katoomba on Friday night, July 31.
The Korean-built six-car train travelled from Sydney to Katoomba, the first of the new fleet to make its way there as part of testing.
The historic journey was captured by the Sydney Trains Vlog YouTube channel. The video of the new train passing Faulconbridge, Lawson and Katoomba stations had been viewed more than 5000 times by Monday, August 3
"Modification work to upgrade parts of the Blue Mountains Line in preparation for the arrival of the New Intercity Fleet was completed last month, which means that the new trains can now travel all the way to Lithgow," said a Transport for NSW spokesperson.
"This section of the Blue Mountains Line between Springwood and Lithgow was the only part of the electrified train network that had not been upgraded to modern standards."
The spokesperson said the the community will start to see more of the trains testing on the Blue Mountains Line, including test runs to Lithgow, in the coming months.
"Most of the testing will take place outside timetabled service times to minimise the impact on customers," the spokesperson said.
