Three generations and 60 years in business: This year marks a significant milestone for Katoomba-based estate agency, Theo Poulos.
Current principal and owner, Peter Poulos, said it was with a great deal of pride that the company celebrated 60 years of multi-award winning experience.
"We have been involved in most of the major developments which have benefited the Blue Mountains community," he said.
"We have consistently provided in-depth knowledge, tailored services that include commercial and residential sales and property management - all with a community focus."
Mr Poulos puts his community focus into practice: He is currently president of Greystanes Disability Services, a member of Katoomba Chamber of Commerce, a member of Shipley Rural Fire Service Brigade and a member of Katoomba Rotary.
"I am passionate about being an integral part of our community. The depth of experience, local knowledge and connections allows us to influence events such as the recent sale of the Radiata Plateau, purchased by the state government for it to be preserved for future generations."
Peter Poulos's father, Theo, first arrived in Katoomba as a migrant in 1952, but his fierce need for independence resulted in him rejecting offers to work with his uncles who had established businesses in the town since 1918.
So he started his own business - firstly as a baker, then a milkman and finally as a real estate agent.
Theo's independence and his commitment to the community is still instilled in the Theo Poulos Real Estate family. Peter Poulos recently handed over the residential sales department to his daughter, Danielle Smith.
"I'm genuinely excited to see what Danielle and the new team can bring to our clients in terms of tailored service, modern, strategic-marketing methods and a solution-focused attitude."
He also paid tribute to his senior team members: Chris Leach, commercial manager, Tess Feldtmann, residential property manager, and their respective staff.
"They too, are also receiving awards on a regular basis for service and quality."
The 60th year heralded a new chapter for the agency, Mr Poulos said.
"I'm eager to continue leading my talented, experienced and professional team into the future. We are so much more than just property.'
