Since the flooding rains in February, a stench has emanated from Blaxland Tip, particularly on cold mornings, and neighbours aren't happy.
The council will receive an urgent report at its September meeting about the source of the odour, actions taken and planned, and a date when the problem will be fixed, following a mayoral matter of urgency raised by Mark Greenhill at Tuesday night's council meeting.
"Staff advise that this is linked to that incredible rain event and I recognise a great deal of work is going into fixing the problem. I thank staff for those efforts," he said.
"However, February was a long time ago and my Ward 4 colleagues and I share the frustration of those living nearby to see this matter dealt with."
Cr Greenhill told the meeting there was a misapprehension in the community that landfill had been moved closer to homes. He later clarified that landfill was no closer to homes than the EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) allowed.
He said on August 24 odour had been detected as far away as Glenbrook.
Liberal Cr Brendan Christie said: "I appreciate the efforts from staff. However, six months on residents have understandably had enough. I support the motion and hopefully it brings some welcome relief to those affected by the ongoing odour."
Fellow Ward 4 Cr Darryl Bowling said the matter needed to be resolved quickly.
