Could your household win the First Valley Heights RFS Get Ready Community Challenge?
With the bushfire danger period officially commencing on October 1, Valley Heights Rural Fire Service is keen to get people thinking about what they can do to get their properties prepared now.
This year, the brigade has decided to add a bit of friendly community competition through a Community Get Ready Challenge. Residents can learn how to prepare their homes and log their progress over six weeks on social media.
At the end of the six-week period, the Valley Heights RFS Executive will vote on the "Most Improved Household" and runners up with prizes to be won.
"The pandemic has limited our ability to connect directly with the community this year," said brigade community liaison officer, Hayley Stone.
"We hope that this is a way to inject a bit of fun into something that can be hard to get started. We aren't looking for the most expensive technology, or flashy equipment, just a solid commitment to the general principles around property protection - clearing debris, removing flammable materials, and getting yards mowed and tidied up - every little bit helps."
Households wishing to enter can join the Get Ready Community Challenge Event Page on the Valley Heights RFS Facebook page before September 25. The challenge runs for six weeks. All households involved will receive a certificate of participation.
