Blue Mountains outdoor swimmers will soon be able to take advantage of the spring/summer season when Lawson Swim Centre opens this Saturday, September 26 and the Katoomba outdoor pools opens on October 3.
The Lawson Swim Centre reopening on Saturday is being celebrated with a free day from 8am to 5pm. The centre will be open 6am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays.
In keeping with the most recent NSW Health regulations and COVID-19 safe plans, swimmers at these centres will not be required to book swimming lanes, however all leisure and aquatic facilities will be subject to the four square metre rule as of October 3.
The four metre square rule states that only one person per four square metres can be on a premises at any one time. In practice, this means that indoor gyms at the Katoomba and Springwood Leisure Centres are limited to 15 users at a time and users must also still observe social distancing rules (i.e. staying 1.5 metres away from people we don't live with).
Aqua aerobic classes at the Lawson Swim Centre will resume on Saturday, September 26 with a capacity of 20 participants per class.
The waterslide at Springwood pool will also reopen from October 10, after pool maintenance has been completed. It has been closed since March, due to COVID-19.
Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill said: "Blue Mountains City Council will continue to follow the advice of NSW Health to ensure community safety, however it is wonderful to see some aspects of our community life return to normal with the opening of our outdoor pools as the days become longer and warmer."
