A seventh person has been charged over the murder of Vergel Velasquez in Sydney's west.
A 44-year-old man was arrested in Newcastle on Thursday morning, and charged with murdering 42-year-old Velasquez, who died in Westmead Hospital on New Year's Eve.
The man was refused bail to reappear at Parramatta Local Court on January 14 next year.
Five men - aged 39, 41, 42, 49 and 50 - and a 35-year-old woman have already been charged with murder and are before the courts.
After reports of an altercation at a unit block at Girraween, police found Velasquez with severe head injuries in the stairwell on December 30, 2019.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition but died the next afternoon.
