The annual Shakespeare production at Everglades has been cancelled for this summer because of COVID-19.
Sport for Jove's outdoor summer season has been a longstanding, annual tradition that takes place at Everglades in Leura and also at Bella Vista Farm and Old Government House Parramatta.
Artistic director Damien Ryan, in a recorded message on the Sport for Jove website, said the company had taken a major hit to revenue this year because of the coronavirus. And while other theatre companies were back on track, as a small independent company, Sport for Jove had had a "tough time" financially.
"We're going to have to let this battle go in terms of winning the war.
"This year's summer season, for the first time in 12 years, won't take place."
But Ryan promised a surprise work will be released in January as an alternative.
In a teaser, he said it would be "extremely special".
"Its probably the most unusual, most exciting thing the company has ever done. It does involve Shakespeare, it's also a new Australian work."
More details will be released soon on the website, sportforjove.com.au.
