UPDATE 9AM WEDNESDAY:
A 44-year-old man will face Penrith Local Court today on multiple domestic violence and assault offences following the police operation at Katoomba yesterday.
A NSW Police spokesperson said police had been told a 41-year-old woman at the Lurline Street property had been threatened by a 44-year-old man, who was known to her, before she fled the home.
Police will allege the man was armed with a hatchet at the time.
The man has been charged with detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage causing actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), choke etc person intending to commit an indictable offence and assaulting an officer in the execution of duty (DV).
UPDATE 3.15PM:
A 44-year-old man has been arrested following a police operation in Lurline Street, Katoomba.
Emergency services were called to the Lurline Street home about 10am on Tuesday, January 19 following reports of a concern for welfare.
A NSW Police spokesperson said police were told a woman at the property had been threatened by a man known to her before she fled the home.
Officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command, assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit, negotiators and the Dog Unit, commenced an operation and began negotiations with a man still inside the property.
The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transferred to Katoomba Hospital with minor injuries.
About 1.50pm, following negotiations, a 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station where he is assisting police.
There were no other reports of injury.
Police inquiries are continuing.
A police operation is underway in Lurline Street in Katoomba.
Emergency services have swarmed the area.
Unconfirmed reports allege a man was holed up in a house on the corner of Lurline and Leichhardt streets in a stand-off situation.
