The provision of indigenous murals will be a highlight of Graffiti Removal Day on March 28 this year.
Graffiti Removal Australia Chairman Bob Aitken said the Graffiti Day removal team has been joined by acclaimed indigenous artist Jeremy Donovan and several sites around Penrith are now under consideration for the mural.
"Jeremy has a team of six young indigenous artists who work with him and they are donating their services free of charge," he said.
"The Glenbrook 323 Air Force Cadets - long time valued volunteers - will be involved again, along with community volunteers from Rotary clubs, Penrith Council staff, community and church groups, scouts, guides and police and government employees.
"NSW Attorney General Michael Speakman, has requested the opportunity to work alongside community volunteers, and will be a volunteer 'guest' in Penrith this year."
Originally planned for October, 2020, NSW Graffiti Removal Day was postponed because of COVID-19 and has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 28. Now is the time for volunteers to register their names. Sponsored by the NSW Government and Dulux, Graffiti Removal Day has been driven by Rotary Clubs and other community organisations since 2012 and is an outstanding community service!
"Graffiti vandalism costs NSW over $300 million each year. Last year our removal teams removed 141,000 sqm (or twenty football fields) of graffiti - saving the community $10.5 million," said Mr Aitken.
"We normally attract some 2000 volunteers and cover 450 to 500 sites."
