The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre's accessible art class, Inspired by Art, has received a generous boost thanks to a donation made by Teresa Kojta.
The mother of late artist Daniel Kojta, Ms Kojta wanted to honour her son's legacy by providing support to the program, an inclusive visual arts class open to art-lovers living with disability, and other creative locals.
Facilitated by Clare Delaney since 2017, the class has become a core feature of the centre's programming, connecting people with the cultural centre exhibitions, through a series of creative mixed media activities.
Paul Brinkman, Manager of Arts and Culture at Blue Mountains City Council, said of the donation: "It is great to see Daniel Kojta, a celebrated artist of the Mountains, recognised in such a wonderful way through the sponsorship of the 'Inspired By Art' class."
"I thank Teresa for her generous contribution and am sure that Daniel would be thrilled to see the outcomes of this valuable program", he said.
Ms Kojta has expressed that the sponsorship is very meaningful as a way of remembering Daniel and connecting to his advocacy and passion for visual arts.
"Daniel had painted a quote on the back of his wheelchair years ago that said 'your inability to perceive my ability is your disability.' We would like to carry on his legacy within the arts as an inspiration to all challenges."
The Inspired by Art class runs four terms a year. Information about bookings can be made by contacting the reception desk at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre on 4780 5410.
