Council has submitted applications for nearly $14 million worth of projects to the second round of the state government's bushfire grant fund.
Having missed out on any of the $177m allocated in the first round, council is hoping for more success this time around.
It applied for funding for two dozen shovel-ready projects in round one, with a total value of $5.45m, but was not successful with any of them.
It was subsequently revealed that all but $2.5m of the $177m went to coalition-held electorates.
Round two's projects are:
Katoomba planetary health hub ($4.5m): To create a learning centre hub at Katoomba Civic Centre and to further develop research, learning and laboratory/parklands at the old Katoomba golf course for council's joint partnership with Western Sydney University, Monash University and UNESCO.
Cliff Top Walk/Charles Darwin walking track rehabilitation ($4m): To extend the 13.6-kilometre multi-day walk and to repair the Charles Darwin track which was severely damaged in the flash flood of February last year.
Upper Mountains tourism infrastructure projects ($814,000): Improvements to facilities at Mt Wilson, Mt Irvine and Mt Tomah would help those more isolated communities respond to natural disasters as well as adding to social well-being.
Blackheath Golf Club dam - bushfire infrastructure projection ($500,000): The dam was frequently used as a water source in the 2019-20 bushfires. A new drainage system would increase the storage capacity.
Summerhayes Park upgrade - synthetic playing fields ($3.6m): Two new playing fields would improve the carrying capacity of two overused grass fields at the Winmalee park.
Solar and battery systems to provide off-grid power at key council facilities ($473,000): Installation of solar panels and batteries at 10 childcare/preschool facilities plus solar in a further 11 buildings which host community services.
Council has also joined community groups with three other applications.
These are:
Treeline Lurline - a campaign to put powerlines underground and beautify Lurline St, Katoomba, the main road from the town to Echo Point.
Blackheath community refuge project - developing the community centre into a community refuge centre in times of need, such as bushfires.
Blue Mountains tourism revitalisation and destination management - developing a whole of region approach to help the embattled tourism sector to recover and thrive.
