Blue Mountains MP, Trish Doyle is encouraging women to participate in a special art project organised by the Zonta Club of the Blue Mountains to mark NSW Women's Week from today [March 8] to March 14.
The art project called 'Blue Mountains Chooses to Challenge' brings women together to celebrate and inspire each other, Ms Doyle said.
As part of the project four Blue Mountains art groups will be invited to design/create photo booths, a flyer and pull-up banners using the International Women's Day theme 'Choose to Challenge'.
Blue Mountains community members will be invited to be photographed in the photo booths during the NSW Women's Week. The art groups will collate the photographs for pull-up banners to be featured at the Blue Mountains City Council's 'Strategy for Gender Equity' launch. These pull-up banners will also be exhibited throughout the community at relevant events.
The art groups include: Mudyi (local Aboriginal elders who focus on prevention of violence); EVIE Insta (young women aged 14-22); young people from MYST (Mountains Youth Services Team) and Artspace (BM Womens Health & Resource Centre.)
Ms Doyle said the project benefits all Blue Mountains women through their participation and empowerment, and provides a positive health and well-being impact to the art groups' older and young women.
The project was funded as part of the NSW government's Women's Week Grants program to promote and support women's education, employment and wellbeing.
NSW Women's Week promotes gender equality while celebrating the social, cultural and political achievements of women.
Ms Doyle is the Opposition Minister for Women and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, as well as the Opposition Minister for Emergency Services.
