Four peak Blue Mountains not-for-profit arts organisations have joined together to stage a major new annual arts festival. Built on a culture of collaboration, Festivals Blue Mountains aspires to establish a national profile and increase festival audiences.
Spokesman Justin Morrissey said: "These strategic partnerships will create a competitive advantage and it is an innovative response to the economic and environmental challenges that have faced the Blue Mountains in the past two years."
The new festival season will commence with Live at the Village, a contemporary jazz and world music event to be staged in early Spring at the Springwood Hub and Theatre. It will present the very best Australian composers and musicians working in an eclectic range of contemporary music styles.
Toolo, the Blue Mountains Tool Library, will activate the laneways of Katoomba with visual art, performance and guided art and heritage tours of Katoomba over the September school holidays.
Blue Mountains Creative Artist Network will curate a series of events, including a Spring Makers Artisan Fair at the Fairmont Resort, musical performances and workshops across the Mountains from October 9-17.
Modern Art Projects Blue Mountains will activate Mt Victoria with a Festival of the Moving Image from October 8-17 with screenings at Mount Vic Flicks cinema, site-specific installations, an open air cinema at Mt Victoria Manor and screenings in shop windows.
