Australian Air Force Cadets from the Blue Mountains held a moving dawn ceremony for Anzac Day at Lincoln's Rock in Wentworth Falls on Sunday, April 18.
With public Anzac Day services in the Blue Mountains cancelled for the second year in a row due to COVID-19 restrictions, the cadets from 323 Squadron wanted to show their support by holding a limited ceremony.
Eight cadets took part, including five in the catafalque party, two flag holders and one drummer.
"We were astounded at the amazing conditions we had in a picturesque and breathtaking location which suited the solemn nature of the commemoration," said Squadron Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Michael Bros.
"The cadets endured a bit of a chill and an uneven surface, but witnessed a great dawn and forged a new memory in their young lives."
Cadets from 323 Squadron will also support St Marys RSL with a flag folding ceremony this year. The remainder of the unit will hold a dawn service at RAAF Base Glenbrook with limited numbers. They will also support the Anzac Day school event at Penrith Paceway for Penrith RSL on Tuesday, April 27.
Based at Glenbrook RAAF Base, 323 Australian Air Force Cadet Squadron was formed at Penrith High School in 1952 with strength of 30. It was the only cadet unit in Sydney's greater west at the time.
The cadets are aged between 13 and 18-years-old
