Council will honour local State Emergency Services volunteers by lighting up their Katoomba council building in orange.
On the evening of Wednesday May 19 from dusk till 11pm, council will take part in the Wear it Orange campaign to celebrate the many volunteers and their vital work in keeping communities safe and secure through significant weather events.
In an unanimous decision at the April 27 meeting councillors voted to light the building in orange in recognition of the SES service to the Blue Mountains community.
Council's Katoomba HQ isn't the only building turning orange for the day - many Australian icons are involved this year, including the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Town Hall, the Opera House and the Big Banana!
Wear Orange Wednesday occurs during National Volunteer Week (NVW), the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of the nation's almost six million volunteers, from Monday May 17 to Sunday May 23.
