A $5m redevelopment at Winmalee would see the old Target store demolished to make way for a new shopping/office space with a new child care centre also to be built.
Plans now on exhibition show a two-storey building for retail (ground floor) and commercial (first floor) on the site of the existing Target store and its nearby parking spaces at the Shelton Avenue end of Winmalee Village.
At the other end of the site opposite where Leslie St meets White Cross Rd, a new child care centre would be built over the parking area near the return and earn recycling machine.
The child care centre, which is only doors away from the non-profit community-based Bunya Child Care Centre on White Cross Rd, would take up to 86 children, operating five days a week from 6.30am-6.30pm.
It would have four staff car parking spaces and 21 drop-off spaces for parents/carers.
The whole development would result in 13 extra car parking spaces in the precinct - removing 99 and proposing to reinstate 112.
A statement of environmental effects said the proposal would "provide upgrades to the retail and commercial floor space afforded to the shopping complex and the child care facility will provide a service for the local community within an easily accessible location".
It would also support employment in an area that is accessible by public transport and close to a number of Lower Mountains neighbourhoods.
The statement concluded the plans had a "series of identified social and economic benefits and will occur at a site that is entirely suited to the nature of development proposed... The proposed works will significantly improve the desirability of the existing centre and encourage greater public interest."
The DA is on public exhibition until May 10.
Winmalee Target closed its doors on March 13 under a major restructure by owners, Wesfarmers.
