The Nepean Blood Donor Centre is extending its opening hours to provide donors with more opportunities to give blood and plasma.
The donor centre has more than 790 appointments that need to be filled over the next three weeks, including around 40 appointments each day.
Over the last month a third of donors cancelled their donation booking at the last minute which meant Lifeblood didn't have time to find someone to take their place. Lifeblood need more new donors than ever to join regular donors this May.
Lifeblood spokesperson, Ronny Maroun, explained what the additional opening hours will mean for Lifeblood.
"By extending the hours, the Nepean Donor Centre can collect the generous donations from over 200 additional donors to save lives each week," Mr Maroun said.
"The donor centre is inviting locals who don't currently donate, or haven't for some time, to book in to donate during the extended hours and meet the team.
"One in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime, yet only one in 30 currently donates, so there's never been a better time to roll up your sleeves and give the gift of life."
If donors need to cancel or reschedule their donation they are asked to contact Lifeblood as early as possible so someone can take their place.
