Penrith Regional Gallery has six art workshops during the school holidays for ages 3 to 15 and Penrith Conservatorium has a fantastic day long piano and violin masterclass.
Taking inspiration from the current exhibition - Bird Petyarre & Middlebrook, along with Gerald Lewers' art in the beautiful heritage garden at Penrith Regional Gallery, workshops include opportunities to explore painting, collage, clay and ink drawing. Workshops are held in the Sonia Farley Studios, include all art materials and all skill levels are welcome. Please wear old clothes and bring a snack. Some workshops that are programmed for the mornings, may have afternoon sessions added if there is high demand.
Drip Painting on Tuesday, June 29, 9:30-11:30am. Suitable for ages 6-8, $35. Create colourful linear landscapes inspired by the gallery's current exhibition. Kids will explore mixing their own unique colour combinations before letting loose with a fun drip painting technique.
Desert Landscape Painting on Wednesday, June 30, \9:30-11:30am. Suitable for ages 9-12, $35. Learn to design and mix a colour palette and explore paint application techniques inspired by artist David Middlebrook. Then put these new skills to the test as you paint a desert landscape on canvas.
Game World Ink Drawing on Thursday, July 1, 9:30-11:30am. Suitable for ages 13-15, $35, Design and draw landscapes being inspired by everything from Minecraft to Dungeons and Dragons. Learn tips and tricks for using artists ink and felt tipped pens by looking at David Middlebrook's monochrome ink drawings and paintings.
Family Tour & Workshop on Saturday, July 3, 10-11:30am. Suitable for families ages 3+, $12 per child. A family friendly tour of the current exhibition, Bird Petyarre & Middlebrook, followed by artmaking in the studio. Create a collaborative artwork as a family by exploring mark making, pattern and colour then collaging pieces together. Adults don't pay but must stay.
Clay Animal Bowls on Tuesday, July 6 and Wednesday, July 7, 9:30-11:30am.
Suitable for ages 9-12 (Tuesday) and 6-8 (Wednesday), $35. Draw inspiration from Gerald Lewers' pelican birdbath as you sculpt your own clay bowl and decorate it with your favourite animal.

Music day. Penrith Conservatorium will host a multi-part music project, complete with masterclasses for piano and violin with acclaimed musicians, pianist, Andrea Lam, and violinist, Emily Sun.
