Anglican Churches Springwood has prepared a packed program of events for the chilly weeks ahead, including beer appreciation, plant swapping, French cooking lessons and Christmas in July feasting.
Dubbed, Winterfest, the events will run for the two weeks of the coming school holidays, June 29 to July 11, with acitivites for folk of all ages.
Youngsters will be well looked after with a two-day kids' holiday club, a LEGO masters challenge and an athletics afternoon.
Senior high school students will be invited to join in planned study days, with support on hand from experienced high school teachers. Of course, they can choose to ditch the books and take part in a youth bushwalk, or a life-skills mechanics workshop, where they will learn the basics from a local expert.
"We're hoping that we'll get to meet lots of people whom we haven't met before-not just people who are familiar with church, but we love meeting people who've never been near a church before," said senior minister Steve Young.
Reverend Young said that the past 18 months had exposed the problem of loneliness in society.
"We hope to draw people together and link them into the supportive Christian community that we have at church," he said.
A special event has also been planned for empty-nesters/retirees.
Reverend Young said that other events were directly aimed at helping people with their spiritual needs.
"Every event will include at least a mention of Jesus from a Christian perspective, and some events will be specifically about examining the claims of Christianity for anyone who's interested," he said.
"Everyone is welcome at these events, whatever their stance on religion might be."
There will be two Q&A nights pondering the topic 'The difference Jesus makes'. One will include a conversation with Dr Sarah Irving-Stonebreaker, senior lecturer in Modern European History at Western Sydney University, who converted to christianity following a series of lectures by philosopher Peter Singer.
The chuch will run its annual Quest Kids' holiday clun on June 29-30.
Now in its eighth year, it generally hosts around 100 youngsters and includes a range of activities like bushwalking, games and craft, as well as bible talks and dramas.
Many of the events will take place in the church's Lawson Road site, 'The Factory', which has recently been refurbished.
Most of the Winterfest events are free or ask a small donation. For more information visit springwoodanglican.org.au/winterfest.
