The Informer: Barnaby Joyce becomes leader of the Nationals again

Mr McCormack said he was disappointed but wished Mr Joyce all the best as leader of the party.

With his wife Catherine by his side, Mr McCormack reflected positively on his time as the National Party leader.

"It's been bushfires, there's been cyclones, storms, floods, and of course, COVID-19, and all through it, we have been a good and responsible government," he said.

Mr Joyce said he was humbled to be elected by his colleagues and thanked Mr McCormack for his work.

An emergency meeting of national cabinet was called to discuss Australia's troubled vaccine rollout.

Chaired by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the nation's leaders recommitted to getting everyone vaccinated by the end of this year and state leaders voiced concerns over vaccine supplies after advice about the AstraZeneca jab changed.

Lieutenant General John Frewen, who is in charge of logistics for the vaccine rollout, briefed national cabinet.

He urged the community to pull together and get vaccinated when eligible.

Sydney residents have been told to expect restrictions be extended beyond Wednesday after another two local coronavirus cases were recorded.

The new cases were a woman in her 50s from Sydney's north and a man in his 30s from the eastern suburbs

They are close contacts of previously reported cases and were already isolating.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said they don't want to see further restrictions imposed more broadly.
