Aspiring Olympic swimmers had a chance to hear words of inspiration from Matt Wilson after his return from the Tokyo Games recently.
Penrith Council and Ripples Aquatic and Recreation organised the Zoom hang-out last Friday evening and 50 young squad swimmers took the chance to ask the Olympian some questions now he is out of quarantine.
The 22-year-old Springwood swimmer made his Olympic debut in Tokyo, competing in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. He's a former equal World Record holder in the 200m.
The interview was hosted by Ripples' coach, Kaz Suzuki, as part of a program to keep squad members motivated while facilities are closed due to lockdown.
The young swimmers asked everything from what exercise drills he does, to how he supports himself and whether he has his Olympic rings tattoo yet. (The answers were shoulder strengtheners and hip raises, "sponsors" and the rings are coming after lockdown "probably below the elbow or on the bicep").
Wilson is looking forward to a big year in 2022 - with the world championships and the Commonwealth Games. He's also hoping to do "some sports related study" for his life post swimming.
"It's how much your body can take of the training, that's when you call it," he said when asked.
Wilson is fighting fit, happy to be home around family and his girlfriend and said while in Tokyo he always "felt the support from home".
