Blue Mountains-based songwriter Tania Bowers, aka T. Wilds, is riding high on the recent release of her new album Ten Songs.
The artist, who describes herself more as a poet or writer than a musician, says the songs on the release were created with simplicity in mind.
Recorded in the home studio of Katoomba's Matt Toohey, some of the tracks have full instrumentation, while others have simple guitar accompanying the vocal arrangements.
Tania said that the songs were originally meant to be demos.
She said that she decided to release the works as they held the essence of what she wanted from each of the songs.
Featuring the singles, I Swim and Curious Moon, Ten Songs was released on October 1 through Cheersquad Records and Tapes in a range of formats, including limited edition translucent red 180g vinyl and black 180g vinyl.
T. Wild's songs are described as wise and curious, daydreamy and evocative. She says she takes influence from the beaty of her surroundings and the natural world.
For those who need a comparison, she fits somewhere between the sophisticated soul of Sade, the wistful yearning of Nico and the country-laced soul of Gillian Welch. Hers is an ever-evolving take on gently indie-folk.
While she has collaborated in the past with international artists including Howe Gelb and members of Tortoise and Prefuse 73, it is crafting alongside Toohey, where Tania feels most at home.
On the live stage, she has supported a wide range of artists, including Cat Power, Wil Oldham, The Books, Kristin Hersch, My Brightest Diamond and Clare Bowditch.
