* Prime Minister Scott Morrison: "It is the product of a tolerant and mature society that understands the importance of faith and belief to a free society, while not seeking to impose those beliefs or ever seek to injure others in the expression of those beliefs."
* Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus: "Labor supports the extension of the federal anti-discrimination framework to ensure that Australians are not discriminated against because of their religious beliefs or activities."
* Equality Australia: "What constitutes discrimination today, will be lawful tomorrow, allowing people to say harmful, insulting and demeaning things."
* Australian Council of Trade Unions: "We are concerned this will be used by some employers to 'cloak' discrimination against workers who raise complaints, seek assistance from their union or take action to stand up for the rights of themselves and others."
* Melbourne Catholic Archbishop Peter Comensoli: "This more limited bill will still be an important recognition of the rights of people with a religious faith to express religious beliefs and engage in religious activities."
