Pat Cummins may be pinching himself today after the Australians wrapped up the fifth Ashes Test in under three days, leaving the new captain with a 4-0 result in his first series at the helm.
Cummins' parents, Maria and Peter, said from their Mt Riverview home that they were very proud of their son.
"We know a lot of enthusiastic supporters from the Mountains want to echo our wholehearted congratulations to the men's Ashes winners. All five Tests were engrossing, filled with magic moments of superb cricket.
"Our family felt incredibly proud watching Patrick lead his teammates in his first series."
The fifth Test, which took place in Hobart, looked as though it may be competitive when Australia was bundled out for 155, thanks in part to the pace of bowler Mark Wood who took 6-37.
The Englishmen needed 271 to claim their first win of the tour and were well placed at 0-68 at tea on Sunday.
But just two hours later, their hopes were in pieces, routed for 124. Cameron Green started the rot, taking both openers and number three, Dawid Malan. Cummins ultimately chipped in with three of his own - all clean bowled.
To put the icing on the cake, the 28-year-old, who began his career as a junior at Glenbrook/Blaxland Cricket Club, finished as the series leading wicket-taker, with 21 English scalps to his name.
This was despite missing the second Test after he ate at the same Adelaide restaurant as a COVID-positive fellow diner.
Cummins assumed the captaincy in November after the sudden resignation of Tim Paine over a sexting scandal.
