The biggest year in greyhound racing in NSW is now in full swing with one of the true classics of the industry, the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg, which was run and won recently at Wentworth Park.
Congratulations to Jodie and Andy Lord and connections of Golden Easter Egg winner She's A Pearl who vindicated her short price with a brilliant victory in the $250,000 to the winner Group 1 event.
As a runner, she seems foolproof with dynamic speed from the boxes, and strength at the finish.
Not only did the victory frank her credentials as one of the country's leading greyhounds, but it also provided She's A Pearl with a ticket straight into the semi-finals of the TAB Million Dollar Chase on April 29.
A win there will give her a crack at the $1 million on offer on May 7, and only a brave person would tip against her winning the world's richest greyhound race.
If She's A Pearl - who was purchased late last year for one of Lord's clients - wins the Million Dollar Chase, she will rocket into second place on the all-time prizemoney list with almost $1,350,000, and be less than $20,000 behind the current list leader, Victorian Fanta Bale.
Richmond progressing
Despite some of the worst weather we have seen for some time, works are progressing well at Richmond with the upgrade to the track and it's expected that we will be ready to return to racing by the end of the month.
When complete the refurbished track will feature the state's first ever dual Safe Chase (remote controlled) and Cable Lure System, as well as new LED track lighting, together with many other track and infrastructure safety improvements.
Greyhounds as Pets
I am pleased to report that there are some major events happening right now and on the horizon for our team at Greyhounds As Pets.
For those who see this before they go out and enjoy the Sydney Royal Easter Show (on until Tuesday April 19 at Sydney Showground), make sure you head over to the Pet Pavilion and visit the Greyhounds As Pets stand where you can ask any questions about our beautiful animals, and of course pat one of the GAP dogs.
Greyhounds As Pets has had a stand at the Easter Show for the past five years and it is always popular with visitors of all ages.
Additionally, last year the Greyhounds As Pets Stand received a Gold Exhibitor's Award.
The following weekend, on Sunday April 24, the Greyhounds As Pets team will head to the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park for National Adoption Day.
The day was a huge success last year when held at the venue for the first time, and I encourage everyone to head out and visit our team and our dogs.
