Australians have embraced the hashtag #DemocracySausage on Twitter in huge numbers on election day.
It trended at No.1 in Australia as voters went to the polls, being tweeted more than 48, 000 times between 12am and 1pm AEST on Saturday.
Conversations on Twitter peaked at 7am as Australians anticipated the opening of polls, and of the traditional barbecue stalls.
Australians also tweeted #DemocracyCake and photos of their "Democracy Dogs".
There were 1.6 million tweets about on Scott Morrison during the campaign.
They peaked on April 20 ahead of the first leaders' debate.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese appeared in 1.2 million tweets during the campaign. They peaked on April 11, after his infamous gaffe of not being able to name the interest or unemployment rates.
Google data also revealed interesting trends on what Australians searched for on election day between 1pm and 4pm.
The top trending election day searches were "polling booth wait times" searched more than 5000 times, and "What time does voting open in NSW 2022".
'Why is Labor spelt without a 'u'?" was the top trending Google question about the Labor Party, while "Who is in the Liberal Party Australia?" was the top trending question about the Liberals.
Other popular hashtags tweeted on Saturday included #Auspol, #AusVotes, #ClimateAction and #FederalICAC.
There were 859,000 tweets about the Labor Party peaking on May 1, while there were 776,000 tweets about the Liberal Party peaking on April 19.
Top Google searches for the terms "which party..." included the extra words: "should I vote for", "is Scott Morrison", "is in power in Australia", "will win the election" and "supports immigration in Australia".
