Blue Mountains band Merlin Twist will compete in the national final of the the world’s biggest battle for unsigned bands at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on December 14.
Eighteen other bands will wrestle for musical supremacy in the Australian final of the Emergenza Festival with the national winner going onto perform at the international final in Germany.
Merlin Twist won their heat in October before playing another impressive set in their semi-final at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville on November 7.
“They’ve got an attitude about them that’s both gritty, rock and roll, and yet super easy to listen to,” said a review on the Emergenza website following Merlin Twist’s October win.
“No wonder they won their audience over, swiping the most votes in the first heat of the festival.”
The band describe their own live performance as “big”.
“[We’re] not necessarily loud but the aim is to have the crowd jumping until the last chord. There is a variety within the set list that allows the audience to experience a full range of sounds, genres and moods,” they said.
Comprising Jonas Thomson (vocals and keyboards), Pat Berryman (guitar), Oli Morley-Sattler (drums) and Marcus Newton (bass), the band will perform in the 6.30-.830pm slot at The Metro.
