Springwood's representative swimmers headed to Homebush to contest the NSW State age championships in mid-January.
First up were our 10-12 year olds. As always, Noah Cariolato (12) was impressive in all his events, contesting seven individual events as well as taking part in two relays. Personal bests were achieved in a number of events, including swimming a very impressive 29.05 in the 50 freestyle in the men's 12/U relay. Kelsey Otto (12) continued to show class and speed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, finishing eighth in the 100 and seventh in the 200, both great PBs and taking home two finalist ribbons. Zoe Keown (11) achieved PBs in both her individual events, 50 free and 100 breast. Holly Nelson (11), fighting illness, still managed to swim PBs in the 200IM and 100 breast. Joshua Power (12) swam a PB to achieve a 29.95 in his 50 free. He also managed a PB in his 100 back. Connor Ogden (12) swam a strong race in the 200 breaststroke and was also a part of both relay teams. Zoe Williams (12) and Luke Anicic (12) made up the relay teams and showed no sign of nerves attending their first state event. Both swam exceptionally well.
The club's 13-18 year olds were up next and spent six days and nights travelling to and from Homebush attending heats during the day and returning to swim finals at night.
Amber Hayes (14) swam strongly in her three events, swimming PBs in the 50 free and 100 breast stroke. Claudia Hayes (16) made the finals in her two pet events, the 50 free (fourth) and 100 free (fifth). Sarah Kemp (14) swam a nationals qualifying time in the 100 free and made the finals in the 200 breast (eighth) and the 100 breast, finishing third to take home the bronze medal. Amy Nelson (13) swam great PBs in all her events, making the final of the 100 free (eighth) and just missing the final of the 50 free, finishing 11th. Darian Quadrio (13) impressed with PBs ranging from one to 24 seconds. Darian made the final of the 200 back (eighth), 400 free (fourth) and the 200 free but had to withdraw due to injury. Darian has also qualified to swim at the nationals later in the year. Eloise Trotter (15) swam solidly all week and was rewarded with a finals position in the 800 free (10th). Alex Bradford (15) swam well and consistently all week and swam a personal best in the 200 free. Adam Goodwin (15) continues to improve in his breaststroke, swimming a solid 200 and a PB in the 100. Jack Kemp had an amazing week, swimming PBs in every swim and making the finals in 200 fly (10th), 100 free (10th), also a nationals time, and 100 fly (fifth). Matt Taper (15) swam solidly all week, swimming very close to his best times with a PB in the 100 fly.
The swimmers would like to thank coach Corin Dobson for his support and attendance over the week.
