Putting your bike in for a service and finding out it is beyond repair would normally be bad news, but not for Chris Hall.
Mr Hall, a worker at Eloura Blue Mountains Disability Service (BMDS), received a free new bike from Nick's Cycles in Springwood when they realised his old one couldn't be saved. Valued at $580, the donation of the Trek Dual Sport bicycle was a show of support for the disability service ahead of its first open day in December.
Damien Gooch of Nick's Cycles was one of the first Springwood business owners to rally behind the community event.
"Everybody has wanted to be involved. The outstanding support given by Springwood businesses is just amazing," said Eloura support worker Osama Moustafa.
The community day will be held at Springwood Presbyterian Church hall in Macquarie Road from 10am-3pm on Saturday, December 6. It will showcase the range of services offered by BMDS as well as give the community the chance to meet its clients and learn about the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
"Our whole attitude is about showing what people with a disability can do, rather than what they can't," said BMDS service development manager, Jo Ridley.
