SOARING temperatures and unforgiving Top End roads appear to be taking their toll on the Top Gear convoy as it makes its way through the Northern Territory.
Territorians have been on the lookout for Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May this week as they make their way south from Darwin on a top secret road trip for the show.
The cavalcade rolled into Katherine on Wednesday night and the canary yellow Bentley Continental, blue Nissan GT-R and black BMW M6 being driven by the trio were impossible to miss.
The support crew set up camp at Knotts Crossing Resort and got to work making running repairs on the supercars.
The $185,000 Nissan received the most attention and was worked on until well after midnight, with the condition of the vehicle’s tyres sparking an animated debate between two of the mechanical crew.
A source told the Katherine Times that Clarkson, Hammond and May spent the night at the luxurious Cicada Lodge at Nitmiluk Gorge, about 30 kilometres north-east of Katherine.
