A man has been located and taken to hospital after going missing from a nursing home in Leura yesterday morning.
About 7am on Thursday November 27, a 49-year-old man with dementia went missing from a nursing home on Megalong Street, Leura.
Staff conducted a search of the nursing home, nearby shops and the local train station before contacting police.
Police from the Blue Mountains Local Area Command attended the nursing home and commenced investigations when they received a report a man had stolen a hearse at Wentworth Falls.
About 10.15am, the hearse was being prepared for a funeral and parked on Adele Avenue when a man got into the vehicle - which contained the coffin - and drove into the grounds of a nearby school.
A family member, who was preparing for the funeral, blocked the hearse into the car park and police attended the scene.
The missing 49-year-old man was detained at the scene and taken to hospital for assessment. It is anticipated that no further police action will be taken regarding the incident.
