There are many people in the Blue Mountains community who devote years of service driving and supporting various organisations. They are truly the "cement" that holds our community together yet there is little or no formal recognition system in place to acknowledge and reward these people.
To address this, the Rotary Clubs of the Blue Mountains region recently requested submissions from the public to identify people who have demonstrated outstanding volunteering effort over many years.
There was an excellent response and selected awardees from the Lower Mountains will be special guests at a gala presentation dinner, hosted by Lower Blue Mountains Rotary, at Leonay Sports and Recreation Club, on Tuesday, April 14.
Awardees from other Blue Mountains regions will be recognised at separate events, to be hosted by their local Rotary clubs.
Residents to be honoured by Lower Blue Mountains on April 14 include:
Peter Berry, who has worked tirelessly for a range of organisations in the local area.
Jan Parry, who volunteers to assist the aged, sick in hospital and the Springwood police.
Phillip Huthnance, Anne Cooper, Noel Gwilliam, Noel Hanrahan <\m> all long-time volunteers at Gateway Family Services.
Shae Blizzard, who volunteers in a number of areas, including Mama Lana's Community Foundation, as well as feeding and running a mobile book library for homeless people.
Tim Miers, from the Glenbrook and District Historical Society.
Joan Peard for many years of selfless service developing the Glenbrook community.
Heather Pinning, for excellent work with the Girl Guides organisation.
Family members are also invited to attend the function and support the award winners along with general members of the Lower Mountains Community. Bookings can be made of calling Rotarian Peter Agar on 0410 498 466 or email pagar@tpg.com.au.
