The 22nd Australia's Biggest Morning Tea campaign is under way and the Cancer Council NSW is aiming to recruit 14,000 local hosts and raise $4.8 million for vital cancer support services, research, prevention and advocacy programs.
While May 28 is the official campaign date, anyone can host a morning tea fundraising event from now until the end of June.
The Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre in Lawson already did last Thursday, serving up plenty of hot cuppa's and nice nibblies, while the 2773 Cafe in Glenbrook stocked and served special edition Australia's Biggest Morning Tea mugs with the message "Raise Your Cup - Together We'll Beat Cancer".
The campaign in NSW is even more special this year because it coincides with the Cancer Council's 60th birthday - and there's a lot to celebrate.
Established in 1955 by an Act of Parliament, seven founding pioneers took up office and laid the foundations for Australia's only organisation that works across every aspect of every cancer.
The Cancer Council NSW now has a network of more than 32,500 volunteers and community supporters. The organisation's information and support service hotline (131 120) answers the calls of about 16,000 cancer patients and carers per year.
Cancer Council NSW community programs co-ordinator for Blue Mountains, Rodney Titovs, said "the most recent focus we have had has been encouraging our region's primary schools to join the SunSmart Program and I'm pleased to say that 21 out of 31 primary schools have joined".
By registering you will be sent a free hosting kit packed with fundraising ideas, party tips and mouth-watering recipes from celebrity chefs.
