Music, paper planes and even bubbles soared at the inaugural Blaxland Public School Twilight Fete and Fireworks show on May 16.
The event drew a large crowd, entertaining them with live bands, a jumping castle, cake and books stalls, a chocolate spinning wheel, face painting, Milo cricket clinics, a sausage sizzle and the chance to hop into a fire truck and Police Rescue van.
Leading the way was bubbly host and school mum Jill Webster (Tall Miss Jilly) on stilts.
The highlight of the fete was a series of lessons in paper plane-making by the best in the business, Dylan Parker and James Norton, whose story the new Australian film Paper Planes is based on.
Mr Norton said the atmosphere at the four workshops was flying.
"We even had time to demonstrate how to make the Circular Clive - which returns rather like a boomerang," he said.
"It was great and I think the kids and their parents were trying to outdo each other all night."
Principal Emma Jamieson said the school was very lucky to have an active and enthusiastic Parents and Citizens Association.
"The parents have put all of this together, led by Anne Palmer, who did an incredible job."
Assistant principals Martin Zoglmeyer and Greg Foye said "Blaxland Public is a little school, but it's got a big heart and you could see that this evening".
"And it was all for a good cause - to raise funds to improve the school's playground.
"It could become an annual event."
