Twenty-one gymnasts from Springwood Boys and Girls Club will shortly be flying to Helsinki to participate in the 15th World Gymnaestrada from July 12-18.
Over a period of six months, these 21 have been working on skills and two routines to perform while they are away. The routines are a combination of tumbling, acrobatics and dance.
World Gymnaestrada is an international non-competitive gymnastics-for-all event attended by nearly 25000 participants from nearly 60 countries. They are held every four years. Participants come from all genders, age groups, abilities and cultures. The members of the team who have attended previously, say that it is an amazing experience that will never be forgotten.
Before the World Gymnaestrada, the Australian teams attending will come together in a three-day training camp in Helsinki to prepare for the huge event. The Springwood team will be performing a group display three times during the week. The team will also participate in the inaugural world team which will perform a large group display twice during the week. All the team members are extremely excited about the opportunity to see many gymnastics displays and also mix with people from all over the world.
We wish to say a huge thank you to the members of our club, families, schools and community who have supported us in our fundraising and/or attended our dress rehearsal recently.
