The Hazelbrook Association is a volunteer community group founded in 2008 to give the Hazelbrook community a united voice to cultivate a positive future for our community and for our local businesses.
The association provides ongoing support for Tidy Town projects including Hazelbrook Village garden working bees, street murals and graffiti management. Association achievements include the beautiful history-based murals in the Oaklands Road tunnel and the annual carols service.
The Hazelbrook Association is very pleased to see the final works from the highway upgrade being delivered this year, with the recent completion of the new pedestrian plaza area at the train station.
The association started advocating for improvements to this new plaza area, Memory Park, and the contentious new pedestrian bridge in 2011 as part of the highway upgrade by the Roads & Maritime Services (RMS). Whilst the improvements do not address all of the community’s concerns, particularly with the design of the bridge, the new pedestrian plaza area that features levelled coloured pavement, planters, seats, bike racks and decorative screens is a significant improvement on the remnant road bridge that was originally intended as the completed works. The association will continue to advocate to the State Government for the inclusion of a lift to the train station from this new plaza area to improve public transport accessibility for our community.
In recent years the association has welcomed representatives from Woodford to help with improved outcomes for its neighbouring village, including pedestrian lights across the highway and a footpath across Park Road bridge. Sydney Trains has confirmed that the upgrade to Park Road bridge includes a new footpath and that works will commence in January 2016, with anticipated completion by March/April 2016.
Earlier this year the association was honoured to provide assistance to Woodford community members, in conjunction with the Mid-Mountains Neighbourhood Centre (MMNC), to organise a service to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac Day in Woodford. It has been 25 years since the last Anzac service had been held In Woodford, and it was wonderful to see the community come together once again to commemorate this important day.
The Hazelbrook Association continues to work with Blue Mountains City Council to deliver works identified in council’s public domain masterplan to improve the presentation and functionality of Hazelbrook village centre. This public domain masterplan is the first to be delivered in the Blue Mountains. The document can be viewed at www.bluemountainshaveyoursay.com.au/hazelbrook-village-centre.
The Hazelbrook Association is always open to new members from Hazelbook and Woodford who are seeking to make a positive contribution to their community. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to get involved, or if you have a community project or event that you would like to develop. Membership is $5/year for individuals and $10/year for business. Details: secretary@hazelbrookassociation.org.au, www.hazelbrookassociation.org.au, www.facebook.com/HazelbrookAssociation.
