This Christmas the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre is highlighting the importance of supporting local suppliers and Australian made products by holding a special twilight market with works from local artisans.
On Friday December 4 the centre will host a special twilight Wollemi Artisan markets, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm as part of the Centre’s Midsummer Night’s series.
Finish your Christmas shopping underneath the stars to the sounds of live music. The café and shop will also be open late as part of this special event and free gift wrapping is available.
The shop features a wide range of locally made items from more than 35 local suppliers and many hand crafted Australian made products.
“The shop is a perfect place to buy your Christmas gifts with a range of quality items for all ages,” said spokeswoman Rose Stibbard.
“The cultural centre sees the importance of sustainable shopping and shopping locally, stimulating local economy and lessening the environmental impact of transportable goods. Of local artists’ work the selection is an extensive one, featuring jewellery, a wide selection of homewares, glass, candles, gift cards, wooden items, Christmas tree decorations, body products, books, toys and more.”
The Wollemi Artisan Markets began earlier this year in an effort to support more local suppliers. It was proposed by a local silk scarves maker [from the company Inspired by Silk] and volunteer at the centre, Belinda Brydon.
Since the first market in February, it’s grown in popularity, hosting 37 designers, artists and food producers from the Blue Mountains, Sydney and west of the dividing range.
“The Wollemi Artisan Market is a great community event that provides an opportunity for artists and artisans to come together and mingle face to face with our local community and visitors.
"I am excited to be a part of this year’s twilight markets which will have a lovely ambience with Christmas lights and evening shoppers enjoying the cultural centre’s courtyard space,” Ms Brydon said.
“When I volunteer at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, I often hear how people have come into the shop specifically for gifts which are unique, handmade products from local Blue Mountains artisans. I’m grateful to have ‘Inspired by Silk’ hand dyed scarves amongst the many beautiful products.”
