The Glenbrook Players have cancelled the remaining season of The School for Scandal, following the sudden death of Alex Hageman, one of the leading actors.
Mr Hageman, who played the part of Joseph Surface, impressed the audience and cast with his performance on opening night. As he left the theatre, he gave each of his fellow cast members a warm embrace and said how delighted he was with the evening’s success.
That night he went home and died in his sleep of natural causes. He was 22.
John Bailey, Glenbrook Players president, and an actor in the play, said Mr Hageman “had only been with the company for one production but had quickly impressed us all with his commitment and focused dedication”.
“He proved a gifted and generous performer who offered freely of himself to his fellow actors and became a valued friend. He was gentle, thoughtful and a very open young man in total contrast to the character he played so convincingly - a selfish, treacherous and hypocritical villain.”
