Springwood Swimming Club’s Noah Cariolato will represent the club at the national age championships in Adelaide this year after qualifying for the 50m freestyle with a lightning fast 26.20 seconds at the state championships in Sydney last month.
Noah will represent the club in the 50 freestyle, 100 and 200 breaststroke at the national championships.
Six members of Springwood Swimming Club competed at the NSW State Age Swimming Championships held in Sydney in January.
Caleb Dryer, the club’s only 12/U qualifier, aged just 11, qualified for eight events. Caleb did particularly well in the 200 individual medley and the 200 butterfly, taking more than five seconds off his entry times for both events, along with several other personal best times (PBs) in other events. Caleb’s 200 butterfly, a gruelling swim for such a young swimmer, earned him a finalist’s ribbon, finishing 8th.
The 13/O State Age meet saw Adam Goodwin (17), Jenna Jones (14), Connor Ogden (14), Joshua Power (14) and Noah Cariolato (14) qualify for 25 individual swims between them, along with two relays. Together, they achieved 15 individual PBs and two team PBs.
Highlights of this meet included Jenna Jones, the club’s S13 athlete, competing strongly in the able bodied events after a gruelling week away at the AIS Elite Para Camp.
Adam Goodwin took a massive 2.5 seconds off his entry time for the 200 breaststroke, while Connor Ogden took home a PB in the 400 individual medley after competing in the 1500 freestyle earlier in the week – only his second time swimming the 1500.
Josh Power took 2+ seconds off his 200 breaststroke entry time, edging even closer to the nationals times for his age group in the event.
Meanwhile, attending every day throughout the six-day meet, and for most of the evening sessions too, Noah Cariolato managed a PB in every single event he competed in, even repeating this later on Saturday night in the final of the 200 breaststroke. Noah came home with two finalist ribbons for his effort.
The club’s relay team of Noah, Josh, Connor and Caleb competed in the men’s 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays, with each swimming their fastest ever time to take roughly two seconds off each entry time.
“Springwood Swimming Club is extremely proud, and would like to congratulate these swimmer’s on their commitment to their training, continuing throughout the summer school holidays has helped them achieve these great results,” said a club spokeswoman.
