Springwood cyclist Amanda Spratt has been riding strongly in Europe, her latest races earning her a 22nd and a ninth placing.
Racing the hilly 137km La Fleche Wallone in Belgium on April 20, Spratt placed 22nd, helping support her Orica-AIS team-mates Katrin Garfoot to finish eighth and Rachel Neylan 15th.
The race had nine climbs, including the incredibly steep 1.3km Muur de Huy.
“I like the hard races that are constantly up and down and growing up and training in the Blue Mountains has definitely helped to turn me into this sort of rider,” Spratt said.
The 28-year-old still has lower back problems after being hit by a car in March, but it didn’t stop her from finishing ninth overall in Spain’s five-day Euskal Emakumeen Bira in early April.
“I showed that my climbing has really developed and I was making front splits and following riders that I have never been able to before”.
