There were plenty of phizz-whizzing witches, eager oompa-loompas, rapscallion Mr Foxes and wonderful Willy Wonkas chomping down on scrumdiddlyumptious cakes when St Columba’s Catholic College in Springwood celebrated Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday on Thursday.
The school celebrated the event all week with library video presentations by the teachers of his stories and rhymes, culminating with a parade on Thursday.
“A Roald Dahl story is an important part of your childhood,” said English teacher Sarah McCauley. “They make you smile and they take you to another world.”
Roald Dahl was dyslexic and “wasn’t someone who excelled at school, but he overcame all that to share his imagination with the rest of us,” she added.
Proceeds from the mufti day were given to St Vincent de Paul.
