Renowned unionist and Green Ban hero Jack Mundey will discuss his life and legacy in Blackheath on Sunday, September 18.
Mr Mundey will be joined by author James Colman who has written a new book about the unionist’s life, The House That Jack Built.
With the support of heritage and environmental organisations, Mundey became a national figure in the fight against slash-and-burn philosophy which almost saw the historic Rocks area in Sydney redeveloped with high-rise buildings. He also fought for safety reforms on building sites and helped usher in a new era of union activism for wider social issues.
The two men will be in conversation with Joan Domicelj at Blackheath Community Centre. Organised by Gleebooks Blackheath, the event will start at 2.30pm. Cost is $20 ($17 concession) and includes afternoon tea.
Gleebooks Blackheath will host a second event with local author Mel Jacob at Glenella Guesthouse, Blackheath on Thursday, September 22.
Jacob’s book, In Sickness, in Health…and in Jail, tells the story of her struggle to cope with the grief and the stigma when her seemingly saintly husband was jailed for two years.
She will be in conversation with another local author, Mark O’Flynn, at 6pm start. Cost is $15.
Bookings are essential for both events. Call 4787 6340 or email victoria@gleebooks.com.au
