Want to know more about labyrinths from a world renowned expert in a stunning bush setting?
A Woodford couple is offering residents the chance to experience the ancient symbol of the labyrinth on their nine acre property.
Donna Mulhearn and Martin Reusch have made a Labyrinth retreat and invited Irish labyrinth teacher, Tony Christie, to give a workshop on November 12-13.
A labyrinth is a circular design which has one path from the outside to the centre. Ms Mulhearn said the designs are “found in many cultures … and currently undergoing a resurgence in popularity appearing in parks, hospitals, and schools.”
“It’s been said that labyrinths emerge in the world at times when they are needed,” she said. “Today we are seeing great interest in the ancient practice of walking labyrinths as a tool for meditation and personal development.”
“The labyrinth is the opposite of a maze, which is designed to get you lost. A labyrinth is a single path; if you just follow the path you will always reach the centre,” she said.
The pair moved to the Mountains six years ago with Ms Mulhearn training as a facilitator in 2014.
The couple created an exact replica of the well-known labyrinth found on the floor of Chartes Cathedral in France.
“I remember getting goosebumps when we first learned that the area we live in (from Wentworth Falls to Glenbrook, south side) is referred to as the “Blue Labyrinth” a name first used by early explorers – it inspired our name: Blue Labyrinth Bush Retreat.
The workshop will include a combination of practical knowledge, experience and reflection to explore the symbolism of the Labyrinth.
The event comes ahead of an open day and official launch on November 27. Details at: info@bluelabyrinth.com.au.
