Dual Olympic medalist Jessica Fox, her mother and coach Myriam Fox and Springwood swim star Matt Wilson have been nominated for NSW Institute of Sport Awards.
Jessica Fox, who won bronze at the Rio Olympics in the K1 canoe slalom, is a finalist in the Female Athlete of the Year award, and her mother for Coach of the Year.
Wilson is nominated in the Junior Athlete of the Year category.
The trio will be joined at the gala event at Sydney Cricket Ground on November 17, by a who’s who of the institute’s most successful athletes.
Fox will come up against a white-hot field in the major female athlete of the year final, where she is nominated alongside Paralympic swimmer Ellie Cole, netball superstar Sharni Layton and Olympic silver medal winning sailor Lisa Darmanin.
Fox said she was humbled by the nomination for an award which she has previously won and praised the support she had received from the institute throughout her burgeoning career.
“To be nominated again for female athlete of the year is fantastic and I am very grateful for the recognition,” said the 22-year-old from Leonay.
“The NSWIS has supported me since I was an up and coming junior and has been at the core of my development into the athlete I am today.
“They have provided access to world class training facilities, coaching and services as well as support for my studies.”
Myriam Fox had a great year leading the NSWIS canoe slalom squad, while Wilson came agonisingly close to qualifying for the 2016 Olympic team after he won the 200m breaststroke at the Australian Olympic Trials but narrowly missed the qualifying time.
He also took home the bronze in the 100m breaststroke and re-wrote the record-books setting eight new Australian and Australian All-Comers 17 years’ records. At the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, he won three silver and one bronze medal.
