Young Wentworth Falls golfer Harry Daniels will head to the US in early August to compete in the US Kids Golf World Championships.
The 10-year-old qualified after winning the US Kids Golf summer tour. Consisting of eight tournaments in the Sydney area from January to April, Harry won the last game by four shots, sealing the deal.
Then in early May he represented Australia in the Trans-Tasman Championships in Sydney. Facing a strong New Zealand team, Harry was paired up with Melbourne golfer Hamish Farquharson. It all came down to the final hole, with Harry parring the hole to win the championship.
Quite the mathematician, Harry is constantly calculating when playing the game.
“Friends say ‘don’t worry about your scores, ask Harry what you got,’” Harry said.
He can’t wait for his first overseas trip and to check out the international competition. The championships will be held in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where more than 1500 golfers under the age of 12 representing more than 50 countries will square off.
“It will be a really good experience and I will have a lot of fun,” Harry said.
Harry was introduced to golf through Wentworth Falls Country Club’s junior programs. PGA professional Robert Kennedy said Harry was a stand-out at the clinics.
“He has exceptional talent for his age. He’s improved a lot with his consistency,” Kennedy said.
“He’s dedicated and he practises hard.”
Wentworth Falls Country Club are holding a trivia night fundraiser on June 10 at 7pm to help Harry get to US. Call 0404 208 759 for more details.
