Blaxland Rural Fire Brigade will soon have a new home after council approved the development application at a recent meeting.
The green light for the Blaxland rural fire station comes only a matter of weeks after development approval was granted for the new Lawson rural fire station, and as the finishing touches are made to the new Shipley station in Blackheath.
“A new and improved station for the Blaxland rural fire brigade will provide an important facility for this vital community service,” said Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill.
“The brigade will be better equipped for emergency incident response and training activities and community events, all to the public benefit.”
The proposed development is for the demolition of the existing rural fire station building and construction of a new larger, four bay building.
NSW Rural Fire Service Blue Mountains District Manager, Superintendent David Jones, said the station will be a welcome addition to the Blue Mountains Rural Fire Service.
“It is important that our fire fighters have the best possible equipment and resources so they can get on with the job they do best,” he said.
The new single storey fire station will also provide a multi-function area, office, storage and amenities for the brigade and will have a divisional command capability for major incidents. The station will have 24 hour access and operation to enable responses to emergency incidents. Stormwater measures include rainwater tanks for reuse and detention, as well as a rain garden to treat flows from hard surfaces and overflow from the rainwater tanks.
