A hearing into the film and television industry will be held in Katoomba on Wednesday, July 12.
Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman said the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts inquiry hearing will highlight the economic benefits when productions film in regional areas.
The committee called for submissions early in the year, wanting to hear how Australian independent filmmakers, and major film and TV companies can expand and better compete for investment with producers and multi-platform production companies from overseas.
Ms Templeman, who also sits on the committee, said there were a number of submissions received from the Mountains, including from the Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise (BMEE), which are available to read.
“We have a lot of expertise in this field here in the Mountains and we know how important the making of a film or television series can be for a community’s economy,” Ms Templeman said.
“This is one of several scheduled hearings, with all the others so far happening in major capital cities and on the Gold Coast.
"It’s a testament to the efforts of people in the Blue Mountains who went ahead and took the time to contribute to this inquiry as well as the work of the BMEE.”
BMEE held community consultations and made a collective submission to the inquiry.
The hearing is at the Cultural Centre from 10-11.30am. Members of the public welcome.
