Sydney, Melbourne prices bounce back in June
Sydney and Melbourne property prices rebounded in June after a pullback the month before, but there remains signs the national market was cooling as regulators tightened the screws on leveraged property investors.
Property consultant CoreLogic said its index of home prices for the combined capital cities rose 0.8 per cent in June, following a rare 1.1 per cent drop in May. Sydney and Melbourne drove the June increase, rising by 2.8 per cent and 2.2 per cent respectively. Read more.
AFP ask for help locating owner of suitcase containing $1.6 million
There's good news for the person who lost a suitcase full of cash in Western Sydney.
It's been found - by the Australian Federal Police. The AFP asked social media followers for assistance in finding the owner of $1.6 million dollars in cash. Read more.
Man who yelled abuse, punched another man in Sydney nightclub is fined $10,000
A Lake Macquarie man has been ordered to pay $10,000 for yelling "I'm going to kill you faggot" while punching a man in a gay nightclub for allegedly making a move on a woman.
The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal found Paul Taufaao committed unlawful homosexual vilification during the assault at 3.30am at the ARQ nightclub on September 15, 2014, in addition to a Sydney court finding him guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm. Read more.
WestConnex connection to Sydney Airport remains without plans or funding
The crucial link between the WestConnex motorway and Sydney Airport remains without a design and without funding, according to a leaked document obtained by the state opposition.
Improving traffic flows from Sydney Airport and Port Botany to western Sydney was a central early justification for the 33 kilometre toll-road, but the government has not been able to nail a plan to connect the motorway to the Mascot airport. Read more.
Atheism on the rise as number of Catholics and Anglicans fall
Campbelltown has seen a spike in the number of atheists in the area while the number of those who identify as Catholic or Anglican has dropped off.
Figures in the census – released last Tuesday – show the number of Catholics and Anglicans in Campbelltown has decreased by 2434 and 6804 respectively from 2011 to 2016. Read more.
Woman charged after allegedly poisoning her son
A mother has been charged over the alleged poisoning of her son after an almost three-year investigation.
The seven-year-old child was admitted to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in October 2014 with breathing difficulties and soon deteriorated with sepsis, raising the suspicion of police. Read more.
Mountains students speak out: Ban the bag
Students from Kindle Hill School in Wentworth Falls have presented a petition to Blue Mountains MP, Trish Doyle, to ban single-use plastic bags in NSW.
Every year tonnes of plastics are littered in wetlands, bushland and creeks across the state.
In NSW up to 61 million bags are littered annually, while the national number of littered plastic bags is estimated to be 180 million. Read more.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller says no to pay rise
Liverpool ratepayers will save $67,500 a year, after Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller and councillors turned down a pay rise.
Mayor Waller declined a $20,000 a year pay rise and councillors voted no to take increases of $5000 a year to ensure their payments remain in line with community expectations. Read more.
Body of a man found near Kurnell lookout
An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found near a lookout at Kurnell on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to Cape Solander Lookout at about 1.15pm after the body of a man was seen on rocks.
It’s believed to be the body of a Brighton-Le-Sands man, 41. Read more.

Darren Mills slammed Bugg for his "low act", which left his son concussed and Sydney down a player after less than five minutes.
