Katoomba resident Pleasance Ingle is debuting her exhibition Country Life this month at Katoomba’s Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts.
Ingle will officially unveil her first Mountains solo exhibition in the heart of Katoomba Street’s Art Precinct on Saturday, August 26 in GalleryONE88’s Gallery 1, located on the ground floor.
Ingle is interested in the visceral closeness to the lifecycle and more specifically our experience of time and death in rural Australia that is largely absent in the urban world. This current body of work explores this subject in different locations and presents dark romantic oil paintings that investigate the mortality through the imagery of rural Australia.
The paintings speak to the spectacle of the lifecycle that is enhanced in the shadows and the sky by the quintessentially Australian light. The dry grasses and long shadows create irresistible drama.
The images of the tagged, vulnerable livestock are a reminder of their fate and an allegory of our own.
GalleryONE88’s owners, Victor and Sharon Peralta, are excited to have Ingle exhibit in their Gallery. Victor, the curator, said: “ONE88 really loves to showcase a variety of works both in medium and subject matter and her use of different materials will make this show an exciting one to curate. Pleasance’s body of work is sure to inspire interesting dialogue.”
Country Life will be open from August 22 to September 3, with the official opening and celebration on Saturday, August 26, 5-7pm.
